Stillness with God

From the November 1972 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There is an inmost presence with every one of us—man, woman, or child—that will lift us out of any form of trouble. It is the presence of God. Through his consciousness of God always with him Christ Jesus found multitudes healed and cared for. To discover that same healing presence is the happy work of everyone who entrusts himself to the teachings of the Master.

Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered the spiritual Science exemplified in the life of Jesus, speaks more than once of our need to silence the physical senses so that God may be heard. She writes, "When error strives to be heard above Truth, let the 'still small voice' produce God's phenomena." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 249;

It was the prophet Elijah who heard God's "still small voice" after a wind, earthquake, and fire had failed to reveal Him (see I Kings 19:11, 12). God's presence still speaks to everyone, but, as of old, few are willing to be quiet and listen.
