SUNDAY SCHOOL Discoveries in Teaching

From the December 1972 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"It is most fitting that Christian Scientists memorize the nativity of Jesus." (Miscellaneous Writings by Mrs. Eddy, p. 374.)

Sometimes it takes special alertness to keep spiritual activity predominant during the rush of the holiday season. When Sunday School teachers make this effort, much inspiration for teaching is right at hand. As you study or restudy the Bible account of the nativity, you might ask yourself:
—What does Christmas mean to me?
—What is there in the Christmas story for my pupils?
—What does Christmas mean to them?
—What difference would it make if there had never been a Christmas?

Only Matthew and Luke give us details about Jesus' life prior to his baptism and his public ministry. And their record is quite brief, although it runs from the day Mary received the angel message that, while still a virgin, she would bear a son, through the incident in Jesus' thirteenth year when his mother found him in the temple talking with the scholars.
