Many years ago, as I sat in the office of our family physician, having just been given another thorough examination, I heard these words, "Young lady, you are going to have to try Christian Science as I can do nothing more for you. There is just nothing else left." This mandate was the culmination of five years of pills, diets, and weekly hypodermic injections in an effort to overcome persisting, extreme fatigue and nervousness since the birth of our daughter.
In the days that followed I was very depressed and frustrated. I now had neither faith in the so-called medical law nor an understanding of Christian Science. Certain questions kept recurring. Was this really a religion that unfolded and explained the truth of God? Could it really heal? I knew that I must eventually find the answer to these and many other questions, but for the moment, desperately needing some peace of mind, I took my Bible and started to read.
Then one afternoon I received from a beloved sister who was then living in Manila, Philippines, a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. She felt that I might be interested to read it. Unbeknown to the rest of the family this sister had learned of Christian Science through her mother-in-law, who was a practitioner.
