Church in Action News and Announcements

From the Directors: Final construction phase begins

From the January 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One intricate engineering task after another—that has been the story of the development of the Christian Science Center, located as it is in what used to be tidal flats.

The new church portico, which will complete the current building project, is no exception. The present pile foundations of The Mother Church Extension are now being reinforced to withstand the additional load from this new entrance. And while new foundations for the portico are being excavated, the groundwater level must be maintained around the original wood pilings which support the church.

As explained in the last "Christian Science Center Progress Report" to church members, this portico helps fulfill the original architectural concept of the church Extension. The portico is placed where the main entrance was originally meant to be, and it will provide easier and more gracious access to the church auditorium.
