In the testimony section of this issue we find a healing of an internal condition that was supposed to end the patient's life within an hour. There are also healings of a broken back, pregnancy complications, a skin disease that had defied skin specialists for years, tuberculosis, trench mouth, goiter, psoriasis, weeping eczema, and a severe burn. These conditions were medically diagnosed or treated before Christian Science was applied, or, as in the case of the broken back, X-rayed and diagnosed after the healing had taken place. In every instance it is evident that Christian Science did what medical treatment could not do.
Christian Scientists are often asked, "What would you do if ...?" And the "if" refers to some emergency situation where a doctor would ordinarily be called. The answer to such a question is that the Scientist would turn to God in prayer and affirm his scientific relationship to Him. There are times, perhaps, when the Scientist might feel his faith is not strong enough, or his understanding not clear enough, to overcome either his own or others' belief in the reality of the material circumstances. So he may resort to some form of first aid, or to the setting of bones, or to some other form of surgery. In so doing, he is for the moment turning to means other than Christian Science. But no one can promise today that tomorrow he will do more than the very best he can to trust God up to the highest of his faith and understanding.
Now the Christian Scientist would like to ask the question, "What would you do if you found yourself in a situation where medical treatment offered no hope for healing? At what point would you lose faith in medical means and turn to God alone?"
