How I Study the Lesson-Sermon

From the January 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A number of active, working Christian Scientists were asked to write us letters telling how they study the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the "Christian Science Quarterly." Excerpts from these letters will appear under this heading during the next eleven months. The following article introduces the series.

When Mary Baker Eddy, under God's direction, gave to the world the Lesson-Sermons published in the Christian Science Quarterly, she took a step of enormous importance for the spiritual education of mankind. Here are her words of ordination in the Manual of The Mother Church: "I, Mary Baker Eddy, ordain the Bible, and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Pastor over The Mother Church,—The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass.,—and they will continue to preach for this Church and the world." Manual of The Mother Church, Art. XIV, Sect. 1

Most earnest students find it helpful to read the entire lesson daily. Searched and researched for truths vitally needed each day, it glows with new meaning each time it is studied. And all this is preparation for the climax of the Sunday service.
