Many years ago I became interested in spiritual healing. I read scores of books on the subject. Somewhere there had to be an answer, a way, to the fulfillment of the promise of healing that so often occurs in the Bible. Christ Jesus, the greatest healer of all, said, "And greater works than these shall [ye] do" (John 14:12).
In my heart I knew that a loving God never sent illness into our lives. My own health, and that of my children and grandchildren, was pretty good. There were never any serious illnesses, the young ones were all keen on sports, and I was grateful. If one of the children had an ailment, I would hold the little one and ask God for healing, which often came quickly.
A neighbor of ours had great problems —bad health, chain-smoking, drinking, dependence on tranquilizers and other medicine. I was deeply concerned about her. When she and her husband suddenly changed, she told me she was studying a book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and finding great help through it. In three weeks this couple dropped all medicines, cigarettes, and alcohol. It was a dramatic change, and inspired me to read Christian Science literature myself. I bought Science and Health, read it, and was quickly healed of high blood pressure, for which a medical doctor had prescribed one pill a day for me for years.
