True Intelligence

From the February 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Most people believe that the brain is the seat of intelligence. Christian Science challenges this belief. Acknowledging God as the one divine Mind, this Science affirms that God, not matter, is the source of intelligence. The numerous healings and blessings that have resulted and continue to result from the understanding of this fundamental fact of being would indicate the veracity of this statement. This understanding heals mental disorders, liberates the intellect from imposed limitations, and expands mental faculties.

Speaking of God, the Bible declares, "His understanding is infinite." Ps.147:5; What of man? He is God's spiritual likeness, or expression. Christ Jesus said, "The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise." John 5:19;

How is it, then, that there are so many degrees of intelligence manifested among human beings? Christian Science explains that these are varying degrees of a limited, human sense of intelligence. Being material in origin and nature, this seeming intelligence is necessarily limited. It is always an imperfect concept of intelligence.
