I wish to express my appreciation of all that Christian Science has done for my family and me. Even though I was brought up in a home of Christian Scientists and regularly attended the Christian Science Sunday School, I did not fully cherish this wonderful gift that Mary Baker Eddy has given to mankind until I was on active duty in the United States Air Force.
I had served about one year of my service obligation and at the same time was working toward a graduate degree when my parents mentioned that a Biennial College Meeting was soon to be held for young Christian Scientists in Boston and encouraged me to attend. After some thoughtful preparation and coordination with the base Chaplain (who was not a Christian Scientist) and a Christian Science Minister for Armed Services Personnel assigned to the base, I found that servicemen were given military leave to attend religious meetings. Soon travel and housing arrangements were made for me.
I will never forget the truly inspiring series of meetings and the joy of being associated with so many wonderful people. I returned home a changed person and decided then that I wanted to take an active part in the Christian Science movement.
