Christian Scientists, and especially class-taught students, are sincerely and deeply interested in the successful practice of the Science of Christianity, as discovered and left by Mary Baker Eddy. They appreciate and understand that the healing work is and will continue to be the backbone, so to speak, of the whole movement. Without it, Christian Science would be just another religion, but with it, we may rightfully claim this Science is the revelation of Truth, the provable understanding of God and man.
Scientific Christianity demands healing; it demands it of us and for us, and for the whole world. By this we do not mean mere release from pain and corresponding ease in matter. No, we mean that a true, liberating, sustaining, and spiritual sense of being must be gained, which is the outcome of Christianly scientific healing, and of this alone. Without question, the healing method fitted to the deep needs of humanity is the method so successfully employed by Christ Jesus, and revealed to this age by the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy.
Experience has made it clear long ago that purity, selflessness, consecration, spiritual seeing and living, are a lasting essential for the successful practice of Christian healing. God requires dedication, and this becomes increasingly apparent. We cannot divide our affections and expect quick and permanent healings. Indeed, Christian Science practice demands unswerving allegiance to Principle, a constant and close walk with God.
