Testimonies of Healing

From the June 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express my gratitude for the many blessings I have received since I began to study Christian Science thirty-one years ago. The religious concepts of the faith in which I was brought up did not satisfy me, and at the age of sixteen I left my former church. But I continued to have faith in God and a desire to understand what God is in truth. From the moment of my acquaintance with Christian Science I clung to it with my whole heart and depended on it in my everyday affairs as well as in the healing of physical ills.

When I read in the Bible that Enoch "walked with God" (Gen. 5:24), I pondered the meaning of this in practice and tried also to walk with God. But it was only during World War II that I felt the nearness of God, Love, encompassing all.

Not knowing the English language, my husband and I studied the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, with the aid of a dictionary, looking up every word. The passages we read were our companions during the day and often during the turbulent nights as well. Thanks to Christian Science, we demonstrated abundance and safety for ourselves and for our neighborhood, although the conditions of life were very difficult. They were especially hard during the Warsaw uprising, when it was necessary each day to obtain water and food for about twelve persons who took refuge with us because their homes had been bombed out. We were helped by a deep faith in the words of Mrs. Eddy from Science and Health (p. 494): "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."
