When a friend spoke to me of Christian Science for the first time, I was confined to bed following a major abdominal operation and was in almost continuous pain. I had never heard of this religion. It was explained to me that it is based upon the perfection of God's creation and that it applies the teachings of Jesus.
The friend offered me the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and recommended that I read it slowly from beginning to end, which I did. The calm that this reading brought me was my first deep impression of Christian Science.
I continued to read, and was more and more attracted to the understanding of God that Mrs. Eddy gives, but I was a sincere adherent of another denomination and did not think I would ever change.
