Each year I become more grateful for the understanding of God that the study of Christian Science gives. Thought elevated in gratitude to God brings the peace and joy so needed in daily living.
Several years ago I was overcome with discouragement and despondency over distrust and personality clashes in the office where I worked. I could find little joy either at work or at home. I spent many lunch hours in the Christian Science Reading Room, but for some time found no relief.
However, one day I picked up Joseph Armstrong's book, The Mother Church, and was greatly impressed by Mrs. Eddy's firmness in holding to the original date she had proposed for the completion of the building. I felt I had to know what it was she knew that the dedicated men chosen to oversee the project didn't know. In my search I read Sibyl Wilbur's biography of Mrs. Eddy and gained a greater appreciation of our Leader, and a better understanding of her fidelity to the Christ, Truth. This was just what was needed to melt the gloom, and I was no longer bogged down by petty politics. Further evidence of the healing was shown some time later when the way opened for me to seek, and quickly find, employment elsewhere at a time when jobs were considered scarce.
