Some time ago this verse from the Bible appeared in the Lesson-Sermon for that week (Ps. 40:2): "He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings." How well this verse described the wonderful change in my own life when the light of Truth through Christian Science entered it! This Truth immediately began to dispel the deep darkness of long years of mental and physical suffering.
Because all my reasoning had started from a false orthodox concept of God and His creation, I had not been satisfied and decided that I was through with religion. Many years later, after taking up the study of Christian Science, I gratefully realized that I had never really given up religion, only a false concept of it. It took much "preparation of the heart" before I was ready to receive the answers to the many questions that had been troubling me. I was sick at birth and was not expected to live long. My early years were burdened with so-called inherited and added illnesses.
Early in my study of Christian Science I came across a passage in the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, that explained to me my years of suffering and short-lived joys. Mrs. Eddy writes on page 322: "The sharp experiences of belief in the supposititious life of matter, as well as our disappointments and ceaseless woes, turn us like tired children to the arms of divine Love. Then we begin to learn Life in divine Science." This learning of "Life in divine Science" has been much more wonderful than I could ever have imagined.
