Prayer's vital element

What God Hears and Answers

From the October 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

What constitutes genuine prayer—words or thoughts?

Words of prayer can fit multiple patterns of speech. There's the prayer of humble petition: "Help me, O Lord my God."Ps. 109:26; Or the prayer of trust and expectation: "The Lord God will help me."Isa. 50:7; Then again there's the prayer of understanding affirmation: "God hath power to help."II Chron. 25:8; And of course the prayer of gratitude: "Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice."Ps. 63:7;

What do these varying prayers have in common? By what common basis can we say scientifically that God hears and answers each of these prayers?
