For several years I suffered with very severe headaches which would leave me incapacitated for two or three days at a time. Periodically I asked for help through prayer from a Christian Science practitioner, but the headaches continued to plague me and increased in their frequency. In despair, I turned completely to God as revealed in Christian Science for my help. During this period I read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy through, including the chapter at the end, entitled "Fruitage." A patient practitioner helped me gain the understanding of God's greatness, power, and presence, and of the Christ, Truth, which Mrs. Eddy tells us never fails.
My constant prayer was to give up all desires except to realize His absolute allness. I wanted to be free even of the desire to be without pain, to accept the fact there could be nothing but God, and to know He was all there could be; there is nothing else. During this testing time I found I had to give up my most cherished concepts, my disappointed hopes, failures, sorrows, and thoughts of injustice. However, little by little these, together with false traits of character, began to give way, and I realized I was being forced to see I had never been separated from God. I began to realize with firmer conviction that Truth and Love are the only healers, for Mrs. Eddy states in her book Rudimental Divine Science (p. 8), "Heal through Truth and Love; there is no other healer."
One day after many months, I felt a sharp pain over my eyes and a fibrous object was discharged through my nose. The condition had never been diagnosed by a medical doctor. What needed to be removed was removed by Christian Science treatment and mental surgery alone.
