The Healing Power of Church

From the November 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Wherever Church is truly expressed, it brings to light Immanuel, or "God with us," and the effect of such enlightenment is healing, regeneration, reformation, and heavenly inspiration. The church service is a time of communion with God, of a deepening understanding of His omniscient power. The prayers in Churches of Christ, Scientist, reach the world with spiritual power and leaven human thought.

The revelation of divine Truth coincides with the destruction of error. Clearly, error is always a false assumption, which Truth naturally eradicates. Error was never a fact; it is a supposed absence of Truth, ignorance of Truth. The Word of God set forth in the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, is the Word of Truth. These books reveal sin, illness, and death to be the effects of error, coming from a belief in a power other than God, supreme and eternal good. The progressive revelation of the Bible, culminating in the life of our Master, Christ Jesus, and the inspired healing and teaching of his followers, proves such a belief to be entirely false, without truth or foundation.

Christian Science is based on divine Principle, God; it embodies the understanding Christ Jesus demonstrated conclusively— that God, good, is supreme, infinite, and All-in-all. As our consciousness of the spiritual facts of being increases, we find that sin and sickness vanish. Christian healing is the natural effect of a clearer understanding of God and His Christ.
