Church in Action

Church growth is growth in understanding

From the March 1979 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This article was written especially for Church in Action. It is followed by an account of one of the many ways in which Truth and Love are becoming apparent, how God's kingdom and the operation of His law are being recognized and proved to be the actual facts of being here and now—how church is growing today.

The word "Church" means vastly more than a material building erected for the purpose of glorifying Deity—more even than an organized group of people dedicated to the worship of the one God. Metaphysically understood, Church is the structure of reality, existing intact throughout eternity.

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, brings out this divine ideal when she defines "Church" metaphysically in Science and Health as "the structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 583
