Mrs. Eddy has given us a remarkably complete answer to the question "What is God?" in Science and Health (p. 465): "God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love." Each of these seven synonyms presents a different view of God's nature, which I have learned brings special unfoldment that can be applied to heal and dispose of any phase of evil.
Upon awakening one morning I found myself with severe symptoms of laryngitis. My first thought was of a church membership meeting scheduled for the following night—would I be able to fulfill my assignment as chairman? Recognizing that any doubt was a temptation to accept a false view of my perfect selfhood, I was at once filled with a quiet, calm assurance that the situation was not beyond God's control and that I would definitely be at the meeting the next night.
Since my best prayerful efforts did not seem to bring about any improvement, the next morning I called a Christian Science practitioner, who reminded me that I expressed God's nature—I reflected Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, and Love. He requested that I consider what each of these synonyms meant.
