Once I had a Chinese magnolia that promised delight for years to come. But in his zeal to feed it well, our gardener overfertilized it. His intentions were the best; but a less generous measure would have been better, for its leaves turned brown and it withered.
In our zeal to share Christian Science do we sometimes overfeed our listener with too many truths when fewer would be sufficient for the moment? We may have given a testimony in church that was so heavy with words it failed to soar to our hearer's heart. "A word to the wise is sufficient," goes the proverb. A right word prompted by Mind's wisdom often is enough to heal. One truth expressing the simplicity of Christ, Truth, can uncover hidden evil, restore weakened faith, refresh deadened thought.
When we overspeak, are we really trusting the adequacy of God's love for man? Perhaps we talk on and on to convince ourselves of the truth, or maybe we feel burdened, thinking that the healing power originates in us instead of in God.
