When I was engaged to be married, my parents were strongly opposed because of my fiance's radically different religious beliefs. What I wanted was a marriage that would be happy, harmonious, and permanent. Not wishing to hurt either my parents or my fiance, I was in a quandary and afraid of making a wrong decision.
I was still a new student of Christian Science but somehow felt my answer would come clearly through a cover-to-cover study of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I read it slowly, a few pages a day. It was a prayerful, consecrated study with a completely open view—a deep search for God's guidance and a willingness to let His will be done. By the time I had finished the book, the answer was apparent. I was certain the marriage was an appropriate step to take. A perfect solution was found for every problem, and obstacles melted away. My parents cooperated fully, and joy and harmony have prevailed through the years since.
Shortly after our marriage my husband became a Scientist. Our three children led lives comparatively free of illness, as problems were met quickly through Christian Science treatment— sometimes with the aid of a practitioner, often through our own prayer. Ivy poisoning, chicken pox, measles, colds, fever, and attacks of asthma are a few of the healings the children had.
