As a teen-ager and a young man I was extremely underweight. This was attributed to a chronic internal ailment that frequently caused severe pain.
When I was in college, I became nervous about the outcome of a piano recital for which I was preparing. The event was important, so I asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me. I was grateful that the performance was a success, but even more grateful when I realized I had been healed of the internal disorder, even though this ailment had not been mentioned to the practitioner. Within six months, without even trying to do so, I gained over fifty pounds, which brought me up to normal weight. I never again had the pain, which had been a part of the physical problem. This healing occurred more than twenty-five years ago.
More recently I have realized that weather need not adversely affect income. Two years ago, because of drought, it was predicted that crops on a farm I own would yield far less than normal. A gloomy picture was painted by the farm manager. I prayed about this need and realized that spiritual unfoldment is irresistible and inevitable. I tried to understand the spiritual import of the words we see printed in The Christian Science Monitor: "First the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear"— words of Christ Jesus (see Mark 4:28). I saw that the only growth and development going on are actually spiritual. I felt very peaceful about the outcome. When the harvest was completed, I was grateful to learn that the yield fell well within the normal range.
