As a young woman I was introduced to Christian Science by the man I later married. This Science seemed so applicable to my life, and it gave me the concept of God as Love, which appealed to me greatly. My parents, who were grand Christians, always sent us to Sunday School, but for me there was something lacking. What I learned seemed like something that had happened a long time ago and did not apply to my present life.
After my marriage I decided to read the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I found it really answered my questions about God in a logical and practical way and gave me a better understanding of the Bible. I started applying the truths I was learning to situations in my life and was amazed how efficient and powerful this Science was.
My small son ran a sliver into his toe while he was barefoot, and when I tried to remove it with a needle, it wouldn't budge. He was yelling, and it occurred to me to apply what I had learned of Science to this situation. I recalled this statement (Science and Health, p. 463): "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." I felt a calm and turned away from the situation. A little while later my child jumped off a chair, and the splinter was ejected from his toe.
