Testimonies of Healing

At one time I suffered sharp pains on...

From the April 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At one time I suffered sharp pains on the right side of my abdomen. When I called a Christian Science practitioner to help me through prayer, I was asked to ponder this statement of Mrs. Eddy's (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 101): "If God is All, and God is good, it follows that all must be good; and no other power, law, or intelligence can exist. On this proof rest premise and conclusion in Science, and the facts that disprove the evidence of the senses."

In praying for myself, I realized that God makes everything perfect. He has never created disease nor allowed it to exist. His creation is harmonious and includes no pain. The first chapter of Genesis tells us that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good" (v. 31).

After a short while, mental surgery took place, and an accumulation of poison was eliminated from my body. But as I rejoiced over this healing, I was suddenly aware of a misunderstanding that required correction—my fascination with the material evidence. I recalled this sentence from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (pp. 385-386): "Any supposed information, coming from the body or from inert matter as if either were intelligent, is an illusion of mortal mind,—one of its dreams." With that, morbid attraction to the material senses was thoroughly rebuked, and I could claim my complete healing.
