My family has always been religious. When I was growing up, grace was said before meals, and a chapter was read from the Bible each morning after breakfast. On Sunday, only the most necessary tasks were performed. Anything more would constitute breaking the sabbath. This applied to children's games and all other pastimes.
Throughout my childhood and youth, I was unaware of Christian Science. Yet during that same period Mrs. Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and author of its textbook, Science and Health, opened her Massachusetts Metaphysical College. There she taught her students to become Christian healers, and the effects of their work were felt from coast to coast.
When I neared adulthood, I had doubts about my religion, as it seemed too restrictive. Finally I began to socialize with friends of the same faith whose parents were not as strict. This resulted in a strong feeling of guilt. And my religious life seemed to be slipping away.
