Claim your Christliness

From the June 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When its presence is accepted, Christ heals. Those healed by Christ Jesus proved this centuries ago, and many are proving this today. Mrs. Eddy discerned the nature of Christ, and she writes: "Throughout all generations both before and after the Christian era, the Christ, as the spiritual idea,—the reflection of God, —has come with some measure of power and grace to all prepared to receive Christ, Truth. Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and the prophets caught glorious glimpses of the Messiah, or Christ, which baptized these seers in the divine nature, the essence of Love."Science and Health, p. 333;

Christian Science explains that Christ is the full manifestation of God's nature, bringing to light all-knowing Mind's perfection. The human Jesus demonstrated Christ as his only real selfhood. And he did this so effectively that his name will forever be linked with Christ as its highest human exemplification. Mrs. Eddy refers to this human and divine coincidence in Christ Jesus: "This Christ, or divinity of the man Jesus, was his divine nature, the godliness which animated him."ibid., p. 26;

But what of the godliness which animates us? After all, the Bible tells us: "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ"Rom. 8:16, 17; and "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."Phil. 2:5; Since there is only one Christ and one divine Mind, the godliness that animated Jesus must also animate us.
