Spiritual conviction brings victory

Occasionally, although the letter of Christian Science is clear to us, a desired healing seems slow. What is needed here? Often it is spiritual conviction— knowing that we are "healed" because, in our true and only being, we are immediate reflections of the one perfect One. This conviction is essential to the correction of disease.

A line in a hymn reads, "And during the battle the victory claim."Christian Science Hymnal, No. 204; Are we waiting until the evidence changes to affirm that God is All? To claim the victory now—what a step toward freedom! A Christian Scientist bases his conviction on the authority of Genesis 1:31, where we read, "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good."

Some may ask, "But how do I find the spiritual certainty that brings victory?" In the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, for example in the chapter "Christian Science Practice," are numerous statements showing how we can advance from belief in the reality of trouble to the understanding of the absolute unreality of anything opposed to God. Mrs. Eddy clearly presents our real need—that of discerning the spiritual facts of man and refusing to take the bait of material evidence. The Second Epistle to Timothy hints at the method: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."II Tim. 2:15;
