As Christian Scientists, we say we understand the truth Christ Jesus demonstrated and Christian Science explains, but are we proving that truth and our understanding of it by healing? We can, for spiritual truth is absolute Science. Its invariable laws and rules are all there, revealed to Mrs. Eddy and recorded by her in Science and Health. What's more, Christ Jesus assures us, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also."John 14:12; Consistent victories are possible!
When one begins the study of Christian Science, the layers of theological beliefs and material misconceptions start to peel away, disclosing one creator, the Mind that is Spirit; and one creation, His wholly good spiritual universe and man. As one grasps this stupendous truth and recognizes it to be demonstrable, denying the age-old notion that there is more than the one Mind and creation, he can heal. He can provide fresh proof that Truth is true.
Popular theology would have us believe that Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, having washed away the sins of the world, relieves us of the responsibility to follow his example. Not so! The purpose of the Master's crucifixion was to teach mankind what life really is; and he endured it with the knowledge that each of us would, sooner or later, have to prove for himself the earth-shaking truths he was demonstrating for us at such a cost. The master Christian plainly commanded us all, "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils."Matt. 10:8;
