I always thought I was prepared to tell others about Christian Science. But then, while I was explaining to an inquiring friend some of the basics, with Science and Health in hand, she said, "Some book! Got a spare?" And there I sat with my one and only copy—leather and inscribed, no less (a gift from my father), all chalked up, scribbled in, and brimming with metal markers and bits of paper bearing citations of special note. At least my friend could see it was well used!
The Bible instructs us to "be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate."I Tim. 6:18; Are we really ready to spread the good news of Christian Science without its textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, to share and distribute?
"Millions of unprejudiced minds—simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert—are waiting and watching for rest and drink," Mrs. Eddy writes. "Give them a cup of cold water in Christ's name, and never fear the consequences."Science and Health, p. 570; This "cup of cold water" could take the form of Love-impelled words of comfort; a Christian Science periodical shared; or, when requested, Christian Science treatment. But let us never be reluctant to share the textbook of Christian Science as well. Its message is clear. It deserves and requires our trust in its healing potency.
