Our new birth

From the January 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Rebirth may seem as mystifying a demand to many people today as it did when Christ Jesus required it of Nicodemus two thousand years agoSee John 3:1-7.

The need for rebirth confronts everyone. Some will accept it now. Others later. But our new birth is inescapable. It must ultimately happen—our true selfhood has never been other than the flawless image of God. The demand on Nicodemus was not to become someone else, but to accept himself as the man God made.

Our new birth has begun from the moment we start overcoming the mortal sense of being and of living because we have caught the first rays of spiritual truth—the first dawning recognition of God as eternal Love and man as His immortal expression.
