"The substance of all devotion is the reflection and demonstration of divine Love, healing sickness and destroying sin,"Science and Health, p. 241. writes our Leader, Mrs. Eddy. Reflecting divine Love is heavenly. Demonstrating divine Love makes earth heavenly. What we understand we must practice. What we know we must live. The primary demand is learning of Love in divine Science and manifesting love in daily living. This is the wedding of reflection and demonstration.
Consider, first, reflection. In divine Science God reflects all good, and man and the universe is that good reflection. Man is the highest impartation of God. God is not in His creation but generates it. Man is the outcome, forever moving harmoniously in divine law. Each reflection is individual, but it takes all individualities for the full reflection. The full reflection is the Christ-image, but it is not God. God includes man in His own infinite individuality and identity. Since even the "smallest" idea of the infinite is itself infinite, each instance of man uniquely manifests unlimited individuality and identity.
Mrs. Eddy uses the analogy of the mirror to bring out most clearly what reflection means in Christian Science. She writes: "Your mirrored reflection is your own image or likeness. If you lift a weight, your reflection does this also. If you speak, the lips of this likeness move in accord with yours. Now compare man before the mirror to his divine Principle, God. Call the mirror divine Science, and call man the reflection. Then note how true, according to Christian Science, is the reflection to its original."Ibid., pp. 515-516.
