The Bible abounds with accounts of the experiences of devout individuals— what they did and how they did it; and all these accounts, spiritually interpreted, have a message for us today. The story of Noah is a powerful example See Gen. 6-8.
Noah was told by God to build an ark, although at the time there didn't appear to be any need for one. He was told to "pitch it within and without with pitch," which would keep out the water—just as the hulls of wooden ships are treated today.
Mrs. Eddy throws great light on this story. In the metaphysical interpretation of "ark" that she gives on page 581 of Science and Health the first word mentioned is "safety." And the Bible account itself makes clear that Noah was ordered to build for safety. Isn't this what we all need to do—find security in spiritual understanding? If we will give heed to the way Noah built his ark, we can build for safety in the same way.
