Your part in the ongoing revolution

From the January 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In connection with Christian Science the word "revolution" takes on a special meaning. It implies something quite different from mere overthrow of one system of laws or practices for another. Knowledge that questions the primacy of matter is bound to be revolutionary to the material senses in any age.

The revolution we are talking about was given great impetus two thousand years ago by Christ Jesus. He once said to his disciples, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."Matt. 10:34. That profound statement of the Messiah's, taken literally, would seem to contradict the very nature of the man who has been called the Prince of Peace. The message is made clear and inspiring and even more challenging if we use the Glossary of Science and Health to get at its deeper meaning. Mrs. Eddy gives this in her definition of "sword": "The idea of Truth; justice."Science and Health, p. 595.

Jesus' Christianity did not support the false concepts of life accepted by the material senses. He healed on the basis of the fatherhood of Spirit. The Master advanced a radical idea of Truth, or God, which is in opposition to the physical senses and material knowledge.
