What a heritage—to have been raised in Christian Science! Since my great-great grandmother embraced this spiritual method of healing years ago it has blessed the generations of our family in countless ways.
When I learned that I was pregnant for the first time, it was my desire to have a home birth with a certified midwife in attendance and a Christian Science practitioner praying for the harmonious unfoldment of each detail surrounding this precious time. During the months that preceded the birth, I spent considerable time praying daily, and studying the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, in order to spiritualize my concept of growth and of God's protecting love, to ensure the safety of the child.
Six weeks before the expected birth date I found myself in labor. The midwife was called and, sensing complications, she decided it would be best for me to go to a hospital. I followed her request.
