At one time my husband and I stayed with my parents during the summer months, managing a family-owned resort hotel. This particular summer there had been several guest-employee relationship problems that seemed to annoy me. One guest was very demanding, and whatever anyone did to try to please him never seemed right. However, eventually I was able to see this individual and everyone else staying at the resort as truly God's children, expressing happiness, and contentment, despite the evidence of the material senses. I neglected, however, to treat my own thinking and therefore had left the job half done. In Christian Science to give treatment means to bring one's thinking into unity with the divine Mind. Through this prayer we are enabled to demonstrate the real man's spiritual perfection to some degree now.
Several nights after this realization I woke feeling paralyzed by pain. I then wakened my husband and mother, who are also students of Christian Science, and together we affirmed the allness of Spirit, God, and the nothingness of matter. We turned to "the scientific statement of being" in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. This statement, which is indeed a declaration of man's true being, begins (p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." Dwelling on these powerful truths kept me conscious of God's omnipresent love for all His children every moment.
When the pain continued, a dedicated Christian Science practitioner was called to pray for me. Within moments after the call was made, I was completely free! I had felt the Christ presence envelop me, and the healing was proof that "man is, and forever has been, God's reflection. God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence" (Science and Health, p. 471). The physical difficulty has not recurred, and that was fifteen years ago. Incidentally, the situation with the demanding guest was completely resolved. He had such an enjoyable time that he brought his family back each summer for many years!
