You can choose the right influence

From the June 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The human realm is a mental one. We need to contend not only with our own thoughts but sometimes also with the thoughts of others.

If sickness occurs, for instance, it may not be because of thoughts we have been consciously entertaining. The sickness may be due to the influence of world belief. Once detected, the influence we may have unconsciously admitted can be expelled through our perception of the spiritual truth that corrects the belief. Spiritual perception brings to our thought the only true and healthful influence—that of the Christ, Truth.

Each of us has the moral right to decide for himself. We can choose to accept thoughts of sickness, or reject them on the basis of spiritual truth revealed in Christian Science. This same choice applies also to a much broader issue. Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, counsels us in Science and Health: "In a world of sin and sensuality hastening to a greater development of power, it is wise earnestly to consider whether it is the human mind or the divine Mind which is influencing one."Science and Health, pp. 82-83.
