A Christian Scientist, in the depths of despair, struggled through a sleepless night trying to gain a sense of God's presence. Her gloom was unrelieved. Over and over she declared words from the Bible, and from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy—words that proclaimed the allness and perfection of God and the nothingness of evil. But they were just words to her—and they seemed empty and meaningless.
Toward dawn the first rays of hope came to her with a firm realization: "The circumstance I'm facing is not happening to my perfect, spiritual being. It may seem real, but it's no more than a dream. And I can wake up to the truth of God's perfection and the perfection of His creation as the only facts of existence."
With that assurance she relaxed into a peaceful, albeit short, sleep. On that day and in the days following one step led to another to ease the situation that had threatened to lock her in.
