Board work: a humble service

From the October 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Service on the executive board of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, provides many opportunities for humility.

Humility doesn't mean belittling oneself or the post of board member. Spiritually denned, to be humble is to recognize that we have no real being apart from God, who is ever present. Awareness of the divine origin of our capabilities brings into view the limitless resources and possibilities open to us as the image of the heavenly Father.

Mrs. Eddy writes, "Experience shows that humility is the first step in Christian Science, wherein all is controlled, not by man or laws material, but by wisdom, Truth, and Love." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 354.
