The law of Love

[Original in Danish]

From the October 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

If the love among us seems to be changeable and fleeting, we can be sure this is because we must express more of the Christ-love. This Christly affection tells us to love even if others seem to be cold and full of hate. The true and pure concept of God as Love may be rejected through indifference, envy, jealousy, or wickedness, but Christ-love always remains unchanged. Speaking of Christ Jesus, Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health, "Out of the amplitude of his pure affection, he defined Love." Science and Health, p. 54. Consider Jesus' statements: "As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love"; and, "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you." John 15:9, 12.

This kind of love never changes. Christ Jesus has proved this to be true, and we are to follow his example. Mrs. Eddy writes, "No personal considerations should allow any root of bitterness to spring up between Christian Scientists, nor cause any misapprehension as to the motives of others." No and Yes, p. 7.

Isn't it true that all that we give and receive of Love, God, is always with us because we are, in reality, inseparable from Him? But everything that is not of eternal Love has no life, substance, power, or truth. We can always learn more about Love because there never can be an end to Love. We can always find Love, express Love, see Love, in countless spiritual ways. True, pure Love can never be touched by material sense, and this applies also to God's man, God's creation.
