The final touch in healing

From the October 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science restores health to the sick, satisfies the lonely, and answers the human need. But spiritual healing is not just a matter of improved material circumstances. The law demonstrated in a Christian Science healing is spiritual. Denying that man is a mortal with problems that come and go, Science shows that man is immortal, forever spiritual and perfect as God's image and likeness.

God's man is never sick, lonely, poor, or lacking in any way. When we are healed of such conditions through our scientific prayer, we have demonstrated in some degree the reality of man's harmonious identity. We have proved that the illusion of inharmony isn't real. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Invalids say, 'I have recovered from sickness;' when the fact really remains, in divine Science, that they never were sick." Further along she declares, "This is the mystery of godliness—that God, good, is never absent, and there is none beside good." Unity of Good, pp. 61-62.

The final touch to a healing comes when we realize that no matter how desirable our recovery may seem to material sense, our true being, indestructible in divine Mind, has remained perfect with no need of change. That final touch is the acknowledgment that as God's children we always have been and always will be harmonious. It is the admission of reality—that "God, good, is never absent, and there is none beside good."
