Christian healing—breaking the chain of fear

From the October 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Sometimes people become frightened of getting caught up in a series of unfortunate events over which they might have little control. Or a person may hear of bad news affecting someone else and become afraid that he or his loved ones could be among the next victims. Especially when a threat of disease has been voiced, there's often a clamor of attention and fretful concern. A virtual chain of fear can seem to be set up in the mental atmosphere.

In the face of such fears, however, comes the healing Christ. As God's saving message of truth, the Christ is always available to bring us hope, to loosen fear's hold, to liberate us and heal us. When we turn to God in prayer, humbly seeking His direction, we open thought to hear the Christ message. It speaks to human consciousness, illuminating our spiritual sense and confirming the reality of God as omnipotent Love and omnipresent good. And the Christ reveals that we are in truth the pure likeness of our Maker.

As we glimpse something of the all-power of divine Love and of the always present good that God bestows, we can begin to see that only good is actually continuous. For if God is All, infinite and eternal as well as ever present, only that which He creates can be present now and permanent. Since God has no part in sin or disease and knows nothing of these evils, they must be without a creator and without an existence in His kingdom.
