When I was a youngster, my dad was transferred to a small town in a distant state. The entire family made the trip first, and then my dad made a trip back to complete the move. While he was away I very suddenly fell ill. Within a short time I developed a high fever and became unable to move my legs normally.
Though at that time my mother was already interested in Christian Science, it did not occur to her to rely on it for healing in this particular situation. So there she was—in a strange place where she didn't know anyone, with no telephone, no transportation, and with a desperately sick child.
In panic she ran to a nearby house to try to get some help. She learned that the only doctor in the community was in the next town on a house call. She was assured that he would come as soon as possible. The neighboring house where she had used the telephone was a multiple dwelling, and two women who lived there very lovingly followed her back home to lend support to their frightened new neighbor.
