On dealing with pressures

From the January 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

How does the active thinker and doer deal with the aggressive anxiety pressures of today's world?

In an article in The Wall Street Journal, citing the tremendous pressures facing business-school deans, one beleaguered dean said, "... I could use more contemplation and less stimulation."The Wall Street Journal, January 27, 1983. A Christian Scientist might translate this into a need for more spirituality, less materiality.

The need for harmony in one's affairs is legitimate. The great Biblical characters also struggled against the many worldly pressures of their day. But they knew where to turn. An Old Testament prophet writes: "When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him."Isa. 59:19.
