Testimonies of Healing

From the January 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

How grateful I am that even though my parents weren't Scientists, I was able to attend a Christian Science Sunday School until I was sixteen. Many years later, although I had not stayed with Science in the meantime, the basic truths of God I had learned in the Sunday School led me to ask a Christian Science practitioner for help in healing a seasonal and lifelong ear and throat condition.

The practitioner I called spoke briefly to me about the relationship between God and His likeness, man, as explained in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. In one place the book says (p. 294): "Man's genuine selfhood is recognizable only in what is good and true. Man is neither self-made nor made by mortals. God created man." When I hung up the phone, I knew I was healed. There has never been a return of this problem, which at one time had been medically diagnosed as incurable.

Grateful? Yes! But still I was unconvinced of Christian Science as a way of life. I continued to seek happiness mostly through material means until a decade later when, deep in personal problems and disappointment, I visited a Christian Science Reading Room and began attending a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. This time I realized I wanted to become a student of Christian Science. And so I began my study—and continued it, eventually joining The Mother Church.
