THE CHURCH IN ACTION

ACTION IN THE FIELD

From the May 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The following report was sent from Secunderabad, India.

About 20 years ago Christian Science was introduced to our twin cities [Hyderabad and Secunderabad]. A family of Indian origin who were American citizens started holding services in a private home. A friend of mine mentioned the services to me and told me about Science. I attended the meetings, became interested in Christian Science, and took up its study seriously.

The family left for the United States, but very soon services were being held by a group in a school. As First Reader, I read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The place where the services were held was looked after by a woman who on a particular Wednesday evening forgot to open the room and arrange the furniture. By this time I had learned to turn to God in every situation, so I sat on the front steps undaunted and read the Wednesday message from the Bible and Science and Health by streetlight. The thought that man, as the idea of God, is never alone dominated my thinking, and one other person also attended the service that evening. He sat on the steps with me.
