Remember the blessings!

From the May 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In her poem "Resolutions for the Day" Mrs. Eddy includes . . "To daily remember my blessings..."Poems, p. 33. Although written in girlhood, these lines indicate her early awareness of the importance of activating the memory of good. Such daily recalling of blessings readies the heart for continual unfoldment of divine goodness and love, expressed in human experience.

There is a spiritual energy in the conscious remembrance of and sincere desire for good—for the uninterrupted outpouring of divine benefactions upon Christly thinking and living. Since good is the only reality and God is its sole source, man is its eternal beneficiary. He is forever the image of his creator, embodying harmony and immortality, those endless blessings of Life. The demonstration of this great truth awaits only the understanding acknowledgment of it. Even in the physical sciences the proving of facts often depends upon the intelligent acceptance of their assumed premises. Similarly, the divine metaphysics of Christian Science, supported as it is by Biblical authority, is verifiable when it is understandingly accepted; its validity is proven by the abundance of blessings it produces.

The writer of the book of Malachi received tender assurance of God's purpose to bestow all good in ceaseless profusion upon those who served Him with holy thoughts of unselfed love and gratitude: "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." Mal. 3:10.
