Labeling versus spiritually perceiving

From the May 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Do we sometimes find that we are attaching negative labels to ourselves and others? Perhaps this individual is temperamental, another too young. We may even accept an illness for ourselves or another.

Human labeling is a trap that must be guarded against. It would try to rob us of our birthright as the spiritual sons and daughters of God. Attaching false labels to individuals is a phase of the belief that man is a mortal—an imperfect mortal, subject to false appetites, lust, lack, hate, disease, and even death.

Christian Science enables us to see through this erroneous, material picture to the man God has formed—made in the image and likeness of God, divine Spirit. Are we looking to see God's image right where an imperfect mortal man appears to be?
