I've wondered at times what ultimate reality looks like. I've pondered what one would see if right before him were placed God's creation of eternal, spiritual perfection.
St. John envisioned the presence of perfect Truth. He beheld reality. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "The Revelator tells us of 'a new heaven and a new earth.'" And then a question is posed: "Have you ever pictured this heaven and earth, inhabited by beings under the control of supreme wisdom?" Science and Health, p. 91. My response has been an enthusiastic feeling that I'd love to picture such a scene.
But how do I do it? Do I pray to be removed from this world and placed in another location—in a world of Spirit where everything is radically different? Or do things begin to change here, do the houses and trees take on a more spiritual character? And again, what would all that look like, especially in light of this statement in Science and Health: "The crude creations of mortal thought must finally give place to the glorious forms which we sometimes behold in the camera of divine Mind, when the mental picture is spiritual and eternal"? Ibid., p. 264.
