Why human psychology has no place in Christian Science practice

From the May 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the Manual of The Mother Church Mrs. Eddy writes, "I recommend that each member of this Church shall strive to demonstrate by his or her practice, that Christian Science heals the sick quickly and wholly, thus proving this Science to be all that we claim for it." Man., Art. XXX, Sect. 7.

One way to do this is to be sure that what one practices is Christian Science and not some subtle mix of human belief and Truth. A false or adulterated sense of what constitutes divine Science, theology, and medicine would hinder our demonstration of Christ, Truth, unless detected and repudiated. The problem is, the material view of man is so pervasive and so aggressively and subtly promoted that we may not always realize we have absorbed some false belief.

For example, take the field of material medicine. As Christian Scientists we are probably conscientious in identifying and scientifically handling its various presentments and theories about drugs, disease, and therapy. But what about those branches of material medicine called psychology and psychiatry? Are we equally conscientious in making sure that psychological beliefs don't enter our healing practice?
