It has been over twenty-eight years since my testimony of healing appeared in an issue of the Christian Science Sentinel. At that time I had been married to a conscientious student of Science for about three years. I'm very grateful that, like my healings, the marriage has been permanent. Christian Science helped us rear two daughters to independent adulthood; we are especially grateful for loving teachers in the Sunday School. Because of our study and practice of this Science, we have all enjoyed excellent health.
One day my wife called me at the office because someone at school had slammed a heavy door on our younger daughter's arm, injuring it. My wife brought our daughter home and called a Christian Science practitioner, who agreed to pray for the child. The pain promptly abated, and within a short time our daughter was free. Later that day the child wanted very much to go to her ballet lesson. She went and danced freely with legs, body, and arms. When I came home that evening, even the bruises on her arm had disappeared.
Our older daughter went to bed one night with a persistent hacking cough. When I kissed her good night, I found her forehead very hot. In the living room I prayed and studied the Bible, together with Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, for about an hour. The coughing persisted. I went to her room and asked her to join me in praying—not just saying—the Lord's Prayer (see Matt. 6:9-13). We pondered every word as we prayed, remembering that "our Father" (verse 9) is everyone's Father and that, therefore, our prayers could help her whole school, where the disease seemed almost epidemic.
